What is TMD?

TMD (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction) is a disorder of the jaw joint, jaw muscles and facial nerves. TMD encompasses a variety of symptoms including headaches, jaw pain, teeth grinding, and ear issues.

  • Pain in the jaw area
  • Pain, ringing, or stuffiness in the ears
  • Frequent headaches or neck aches
  • Clicking or popping sound when the jaw moves
  • Muscle spasms in the jaw area
  • A change in the alignment of top and bottom teeth
  • Locked jaw or limited opening of the mouth

If you notice that you are experiencing any of these symptoms, call us to schedule a TMD Consult. Dr. Zaidi can help determine if you have TMD and create a customized treatment plan to help relieve your symptoms.

In certain cases, orthodontic alignment of the teeth and jaws can help relieve the symptoms of TMD that may be aggravated by a bad bite. Many symptoms, including clenching, grinding and muscle pain, are multifactorial and thus require an interdisciplinary team approach. Our orthodontists will conduct a thorough exam and determine what course of treatment is best to relieve your symptoms.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above and are concerned that you’re a candidate for TMD treatment, please contact our office for a consultation.
